Frank “Anakwad” Montano

About the Artist 

Accomplished Native American flutist and contemporary Native American musician integrates many different genres into a sound that has captivated the world for over a half of century.  His unique methods of delivering a sound that relaxes your mind and body while reaching the depths of your soul is a trademark that has brought him international recognition.  The music is married to words of wisdom and life experiences while sharing the teachings of his cultural values.

Anakwad was born and lives on the Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa reservation in northern Wisconsin on the shores of Lake Superior.  He is a self-taught musician who has mastered many instruments and is additionally known for being a master flute maker and performer.  Anakwad is also an international peacemaker, speaker, storyteller and presenter of Native American culture.

Over the course of his career he has received numerous awards and certificates of recognition but none more prestigious than his 2011 Native American Music Awards recognition for his rerelease of the compilation named “Reservation Reflections”.

Anakwad continues to perform nationally and has also captivated audiences in Croatia, Germany, Japan, Switzerland, Canada and Mexico.
